Developer Engineer (USA)

Point Duty is an Australian software company developing a range of software products focusing on open source intelligence (OSINT) gathering to help detect criminal activity that threatens civil society and for business intelligence.

Originating in Australia, Point Duty now has global customers and partners. To meet the needs of a specific New York based customer - Point Duty has the opening for a full time developer to support and extend the Point Duty products in use by the customer. The role is in New York City and will require frequent (weekly) on site presence at the customer’s premises. New York residency is desired, however daily commute outside of New York City is acceptable. There is no provision for accommodation allowance except under exceptional circumstances.

The role will involve releasing software to strict deadlines. The role will be carried out in an ongoing project environment and will require: close liaison with the customer, the customers technical support team, evaluating customers’ requirements & requests, and developing the most cost effective way to address them.

The Point Duty software development team operates in a highly dynamic technical and customer environment. Team members under the guidance of management need to be able to maintain focus on product development schedules as well as make immediate responses to product functionality when changes in the technical environment or customer requirements warrant a response by Point Duty. Positions outside Australia will have the support of the development and operations team in Australia as required.
As a software developer you will be expected to abide by all Point Duty’s policies and procedures.


  • Execute full software development life cycle.
  • Attend customer review, release testing and project meetings.
  • Maintain meeting minutes and report back to Director of Software Development and project Manager.
  • Review and critically evaluate customer requirements and requests and formulate recommendations based on appropriate solutions and business cycle considerations including time and budget.
  • Develop flowcharts, layouts and documentation to identify requirements and solutions.
  • Carry out software design with the development team providing advice, expertise and guidance on technical and financial components of a software project and internal systems improvement.
  • Research, analyse and evaluate system programs and consult with the development and management teams in the formulation of recommendations.
  • Write well-designed, maintainable and testable code that meets system, design and technical requirements to the defined quality standards.
  • Participate in the development of specifications and determining operational feasibility of solutions.
  • Participate in continuous product and process improvement by identifying technological and systems deficiencies and recommending process, procedures and method improvements.
  • Integrate software components into existing, fully functional software system.
  • Develop software verification plans, quality assurance procedures, technical and end user documentation and assist with developing and improving operational procedures.
  • Use testing protocols, quality standards and guidelines to troubleshoot, diagnose and debug and correct software so that it meets defined specifications.
  • Deploy programs and participate in the evaluation of user feedback.
  • Comply with project plans and industry standards.
  • Participate in Point Duty development team meeting and decision processes.

Required Skills - The role will require the following skills;

  • Source code control Subversion and Git.
  • Microsoft stack .NET, C#, IIS.
  • MS SQL and DB2 Database.
  • Web services WCF, Rest, SOAP, JSON.
  • Proficient in Test driven development.
  • Experience in different networked environments.
  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience in Geospatial Analysis development with an emphasis on Esri

Required Experience;

  • Five (5) years’ experience is desirable.

Qualifications are required by an employee to fill the nominated position - A tertiary qualification (Bachelor or higher) is desirable for the position.

A Police Check is required for this role - TS Clearance is desirable.
